First Day Info
- Park in front of and enter through the Main Entrance of the hospital. The front desk can guide you to the Radiology Department where you’ll check in and ask for Michelle Huth.
- After your first day, you will park in the South Lot in the back of the building and come in the employee entrance between ED and Surgery. No parking badge is needed. See map on Weebly for reference.
- You will be wearing blue scrubs that Ridges provides for you each day you’re here. Feel free to wear street clothes into the building.
- Locker space is limited. At minimum, you will be able to keep your belongings in a cabinet in the XR control room. A locked locker is available in our ED XR room.
- We have a break room with a refrigerator that you may keep any food/drink.
- You’re allowed a 30 minute lunch/break at whatever time you choose. Please just let Michelle or another tech know when you’re going on your break.
- You’ll spend the majority of your first few days with Michelle, and then will expand to work with other technologists.
- Please show up to the control area changed and ready to begin working promptly by your start time of 7:00a.
- Expect to be on your feet the majority of your time here. There are plenty of areas for you to be involved in at any time during your shift. If you aren’t sure what you could/should be doing, please ask!
- Be in on – and LEAD - as many exams as possible. Let us be your assistant. If you’re not comfortable with leading exams, assist the tech doing it or help with patient care.
- Bring or make a list of the mandatory and elective comps you still need for the semester. It helps the techs keep an eye out for exams that you still need.
- Your main and first point of contact for questions, concerns, issues, absences, or anything regarding your time here will be Michelle. If I’m not available or present, let another tech know.
- Comps are achievable when you let a tech know prior to the exam that you’d like to comp, and no tech interventions are needed throughout the exam. You must know our protocol for the exam as well.
- We do not have room rotations like some sites do. Aside from the first few days, you will not be assigned a tech to work with. There are a lot of opportunities for you to be involved in. You have the freedom to choose what you want to do, but we expect you to be involved in a little bit of everything. ED x-rays, portable x-rays on the floor, NICU, PACU, fluoro exams, and surgery cases. If there is an area you feel you need more exposure to, please let Michelle know and we will work to get you in those areas more frequently.
- Computer paperwork/charting is not something we want you worrying about. The techs will take care of that.
- Stock linen in XR rooms (main, room 3/ fluoro, ED)
- Stock blanket warmer in control room
- Replace full laundry bags in XR rooms
- Clean rooms/equipment
- You may study or practice positioning and equipment proficiency once the above items have been addressed
- We are all here to help you! Please ask a lot of questions. It shows interest and that you care.
- We want you to succeed! If there is a way you know you learn best, we’ll adapt to that and work with you however we can to help you achieve your goals.
- We always welcome positive feedback as well as opportunities for improvement. You can email Michelle on your off time if needed, or talk in person when you’re on site.
